Fantastic Football To Get You Feeling Festive

Football matches on over Christmas 2019

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… as long as you’re winning, of course! Yes, they do Christmas a little differently in the Premier League; not everybody gets glorious gifts this time of year, because when the fixtures arrive thick and fast, a bad run of form can make for a very unhappy festive season!

For footy fans, however, one thing is guaranteed; a feast of football to rival anything that will land on the dinner table come December 25th! Of course, the Premier League action is just part of what you can enjoy on Sky Sports in the coming weeks – check out PLAY Magazine for our watchlist! – but if it’s soccer you’re searching for, then look no further than these tasty treats…

MANCHESTER CITY v LEICESTER CITY

Saturday December 21st, 5pm, Sky Sports Premier League, Virgin TV 405

Pep Guardiola’s men already have plenty of ground to make up at the top – and the Foxes, rejuvenated under Brendan Rodgers, have far more than the clichéd puncher’s chance in this one. The Northern Irish manager was never able to bring the league trophy to Anfield during his time in Liverpool; could he do the next best thing, and play a part in making sure it gets there this time?!

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR v CHELSEA

Sunday December 22nd, 4pm, Sky Sports Main Event, Virgin TV 401

While the two London clubs have experienced rather contrasting first halves of the season – Chelsea in impressive form under Frank Lampard, Spurs ridding themselves of Poch in the midst of a stuttering run – the form book will fly out the window for this delicious derby tie. With two of England’s deadliest marksmen – Tammy Abraham and Harry Kane – in action, let’s hope the goalies haven’t indulged in the mince pies too early!

LIVERPOOL v WOLVES

Sunday December 29th, 4pm, Sky Sports Main Event, Virgin TV 401

2019 was a great year for Liverpool – record breaking runs, praise from far and wide, and the small matter of a UEFA Champions League safely deposited in the Anfield trophy cabinet. All of that, of course, will be old news if the New Year delivers what Merseysiders have craved for 30 years – another league title! When the calendars turn, the Reds might already be moving out of sight; three points here, and it could be a very happy new year indeed!
