All Changed, Changed Utterly – What’s Different In Sport This Season!

Television news
We’re counting down the days until the big kick-off for Virgin Media Sport, which is set to be your stop for a sporting fix over the coming season – and many more! As well as being the home of all 371 UEFA Champions League and Europa League games, it’s also going to be the spot for live international football, Champions Cup and Six Nations rugby, and some of the biggest fixtures in the horse racing calendar.
So while September 18th will herald a new dawn in sports TV, it’s not the only change a-coming – far from it! Here’s a few more massive new developments to look out for in the year ahead…
ON THE DOUBLE!
Getting your footy fill with Champions League action on Tuesday and Wednesday nights was always a treat – but doubling that dose is even better! This year will see staggered kick-off times for the first time in the competition’s history, meaning a pair of games each evening at 6pm and 8pm. Just try not to let your boss see you sneaking out early…
THE MIGHTY QUINN
He might have taken a break from punditry for a year, but Ireland’s favourite big man will be back in action as Niall Quinn takes his place in the Virgin Media Sport soccer panel. There, he’ll be alongside Graeme Souness, Brian Kerr, Kevin Kilbane and Keith Andrews – now there’s a five-a-side team you’d be hard-pushed to beat!
IT TAKES A NATION(S LEAGUE)
International football is set for a pretty radical revamp too, as the brand new UEFA Nations League kicks off for the first time. Replacing meaningless friendly matches with something a lot more important, the opportunity to move up and down the divisions – and even seal qualification to Euro 2020 – is on offer, so Martin O’Neill’s men will have it all to play for!
STAND OFF FOR THE MUNSTERMEN
Ronan O’Gara will be part of Virgin Media’s coverage of the Heineken Champions Cup this year – and he’ll have a chance to run the rule over the man who might finally be capable of filling his shoes. Leinster might have been the dominant side over the past number of years, but Joey Carberry’s migration south looks like being a real boon for the men in red!
